About the Town:

The Town of Babylon is one of the more culturally-mixed municipalities on Long Island. While most town neighborhoods are dominated by one ethnic group or another, as a unit, Babylon's demographics are multi-cultural.

According to the 2020 United States Census Findings:

  • The town's total population is 218,223, with an average of 3.17 persons living in 65,994 households. Babylon is the most densely populated town in Suffolk County, with 4,082.7 people per square mile and 52.32 square miles of land.
  • The median family income is $79,545, although 5.9% of Babylon residents live below the poverty line. Almost 53% of the town households have an annual income of $75,000 or more.
  • Demographically, the town's ethnic make up is approximately 72% white, 16% African-American, 16% Hispanic, and 3% Asian. Some residents represent two or more races, which is why these numbers total to over 100%.
  • According to the census data, the largest ethnic group, based on ancestry in Babylon Town, is Italian, with 59,306 people claiming to have some or all Italian ancestry. People with all or some Irish ancestry number 41,564. Babylon residents with German ancestry total 31,491. 38% of Babylon Town residents reported having ancestry made up of various other groups listed on the census form.

Amityville Village: 

  • "The Friendly Village" is 2.1 square miles with a population of 9,500.
  • Its median family income is $95,865.
  • Slightly less than 6.4% of this hamlet's families live below the poverty level.

Babylon Village:

  • Slightly larger than Amityville at 2.4 square miles, Babylon Village has 12,188 people within its borders.
  • The median family income is $131,134.
  • 4% of this hamlet's families live below the poverty level.

Barrier Island (Gilgo, Oak Beach & Captree Communities): 

  • The beach communities are counted as one by the census, with only 417 people scattered over 8.4 miles.
  • The median family income is $170,135.

Copiague:

  • The median family income for Copiague residents is $82,258.

Deer Park:

  • The second largest of the town's hamlets, Deer Park has 28,837 people within 6.2 square miles.

East Farmingdale:

  • Median family income is $87,177 for this hamlet of 6,617 residents.

  • East Farmingdale is the home of Republic Airport.

Lindenhurst Village: 

  • One of the largest villages on Long Island based on population, Lindenhurst boasts 27,148 people within 3.8 square miles.
  • The median family income is $97,253.

North Amityville:

  • With a median household income of $75,529, this hamlet is 2.3 square miles and has 18,643 residents.

North Babylon:
