Responsibilities of Services for the Disabled
This Division is dedicated to improving the quality of life for all residents with disabilities and serves as a focal point for information, referral and technical assistance to physically and mentally challenged individuals and senior citizens.
The Services for the Disabled and Senior Citizen Community Services Division is located at 281 Phelps Lane, in North Babylon. They can be contacted directly at (631) 893-1050 or by emailing the Services for the Disables.
Division responsibilities include:
- The issuance of handicapped parking permits
- Plans and organizes programs to stimulate, promote, encourage and advance the moral, physical, mental and social well-being of Babylon's disabled residents
- Provides transportation to medical appointments and grocery shopping on designated times during the week
Therapeutic Institute:
The Babylon Therapeutic Institute, Inc. is a non-for-profit corporation funded by the Town of Babylon, County of Suffolk, and State of New York. All activities are pending. Please call for further information - (631) 893-1050.

You may register for all of these programs or only some. Registration is ongoing.
Disabled Transportation:
Transportation is available to and from medical appointments on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Please call for schedule availability.
Transportation for grocery shopping is available on Thursdays and Fridays, beginning at 9:15 AM. Please call for further information.
Prior notice of 72 hours is required for the scheduling of all transportation appointments by calling 631-893-1050. Registration forms must be completed before transportation will be provided.

Handicap Parking Permit Applications are available online or can be obtained by calling the Services for the Disabled, (631) 893-1050. The form must be completed in its entirety and signed by a physician. Applications can be returned in person or mailed directly to:

Transportation services are provided on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for medical appointments and on Fridays for shopping needs. Interested applicants need to submit a doctor's note to Services for the Disabled at least one week prior to their scheduled transportation needs.

The Town of Babylon offers evening recreation, arts and crafts, bowling activities, and sports/movie night for our disabled residents.
- How do I apply for a handicap parking sign?

All requests for handicap parking signs should be submitted in writing to:

Please provide the location where the signs are requested and a brief description of why the signs are being requested. The location will be examined to determine if the signs are appropriate with regard to traffic control in the area and to determine if they conform to the requirements established under state and federal laws.
