The Gilbert Rod & Gun Club, formed in 1884, was one of the oldest sporting clubs in Amityville. The club was named for one of their members, William K. Gilbert.

Colonel Gilbert Potter Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, organized 1957

  • Gilbert Potter (1725-1786) was a doctor who served in the American Revolution and the French and Indian War. During the occupation of Long Island, during the American Revolution, he was among those who worked to keep Gen. George Washington informed about the activities of the British troops.

  • Named for Amityville resident John J. Kreyer, Jr. (1923-1945), Amityville High School Class of 1942. Killed in action, World War II, April 16, 1945, while on a flight over China.
