Veterans Memorial at George Sims Plaza, Straight Path. The plaza was named for Wyandanch resident George Sims around 2001. At the age of 23, Sims was a member of the 377th Ordnance Motor Vehicle unit, a black Army regiment, which was part of the D-Day invasion at Normandy, June 6, 1944.

The “Wyandanch Honor Roll 1943-1947 -- Erected in Tribute to All the Members of this Community Who Served Our Country.” 

 

The Honor Roll is displayed at Martin A. Kessler VFW Post #2912, 19 Colonial Springs Road, Wheatley Heights.
