Dog & Cat Services
Pet Microchipping:
Microchipping is a great choice since animal shelters and veterinary clinics will have a scanner, allowing them to scan a pet for a microchip and trace it back to the registered owner. All pets adopted from the shelter will leave with a registered microchip to the adopter. Lost pets being redeemed by the owner will also have the option to have a microchip implanted before being picked up.
- A microchip contains a registration identification number associated with your pet. The chip, as small as a grain of rice, is implanted under your dog's or cat's skin.
- The Town of Babylon Animal Shelter will microchip your pet, with registration included, for the low fee of $25, cash only.
- Your pet must have a current Rabies Certificate for this service. Please call the shelter at 631-643-9270 to confirm availability.
Dog Licenses:
- License your dog and put the dog license tag on their collar. When your dog is licensed, the animal shelter can contact you through that tag or the microchip that you have registered for your dog on the dog license.
- Dog licenses can be dispensed in person at the Babylon Animal Shelter during shelter office hours or at the Town Clerk’s Office at Town Hall.
Spay / Neuter / Veterinary Services:
The Animal Shelter does not have any Veterinary services for the public’s pets.
- The Town of Babylon Animal Shelter offers a low-cost voucher program for feral cat spay/neuter & return. The cats must be returned to same location they were trapped from. YOU CANNOT RELOCATE CATS!!! Vouchers will be given to residents who live in the Town of Babylon and who have feral outdoor cats in the Town of Babylon that need to be altered. Up to three vouchers may be issued at a time to each resident. At this time the vouchers are redeemed at Farmingdale Dog & Cat Clinic. You must call the clinic to make an appointment once you have the vouchers.
- The Animal Shelter will provide a humane trap and instruct on use to catch the feral cat in the trap. You will need to have photo ID as a Town of Babylon resident. The animal shelter will collect a $100 cash deposit for the use of the trap. You will receive the full deposit back when the trap is returned in the same condition as it left the shelter, by the return date issued to you.
Kitten Foster Program:
The purpose of the kitten foster program is to provide a home environment for our kittens, while they grow and mature to an age to be put up for adoption. Fosters help make our homeless kittens more adoptable through concentrated attention and socialization.
- Supplies - the Shelter gives fosters all of the supplies needed to be a successful foster parent. We provide food and other supplies required to care for the animal.
- Daily Care - Foster parents are required to take on the responsibility of daily care of the animal they are fostering. They are expected to provide their foster kitten with food, water, shelter, and administer medication when necessary and keep their living area clean in a happy and safe environment.
- Time - Foster parents will need to dedicate the time to transport the animal to the shelter for routine check-ups and vaccinations. Every family member in the household will need to be prepared for the commitment and emotional aspects involved in fostering.
- Additional Information - It can be easy to fall in love with any animal, especially one that has depended on you. Please take the time to discuss the way your family will handle seeing an animal that you care for, leaving you to live with their new adoptive family. Always remember, foster parents are the life- saving 'bridge' between shelter life and their happy-ever-after. Should you decide for a kitten to become a permanent part of your family, the shelter will guide you through those arrangements.
- If you are interested in becoming a kitten foster parent, and joining us in our life-saving mission, please call the shelter to speak to one of our Foster Coordinators. 631-643-9270.
