Babylon Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer recently joined Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez, Councilwoman Jacqueline Gordon, Councilman Tom Donnelly, and Town Clerk Carol Quirk to congratulate Malasher Johnson of Milton L. Olive Middle School in Wyandanch for winning a statewide essay contest. Malasher won a $500 savings bond for her essay based on Karen Levine’s non-fiction book Hana’s Suitcase, which is about the discovery of a suitcase belonging to a young girl who was a victim of the Holocaust.

This is the third year in a row that a Wyandanch student won the top prize in this contest, which is sponsored by the Robert H. Jackson Center and the New York State Bar Association Law, Youth & Citizenship Program.
