Babylon Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer recently joined with County Executive Steve Bellone, NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly, and other local officials to rename Midwood Road in West Babylon in honor of NYPD Officer Peter Figoski, who was killed in the line of duty in 2011. Supervisor Schaffer joined Figoski’s four daughters in unveiling the new street sign in front of a large audience, consisting of over 100 fellow police officers, neighbors and members of the Figoski family. Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez, Councilman Tom Donnelly and Town Clerk Carol Quirk were also in attendance for the ceremony.

Officer Figoski, a West Babylon resident, was a 22-year veteran of the NYPD who was fatally shot while responding to a botched robbery of a drug dealer in Brooklyn in December 2011. While Figoski was posthumously promoted to Detective by the NYPD, his daughters asked that the sign list him as an Officer in honor of the position he held for most of their lives. The ceremony was held on what would have been Officer Figoski’s 49th birthday.
