The Babylon Town Board recently recognized Ethan Klenofsky, 24, of North Babylon for earning the Congressional Award.
The Congressional Award is the United States Congress’ award for young Americans. It is non-partisan, voluntary, and non-competitive. The program is open to all youth in the United States between the ages of 14 and 24 regardless of ability, circumstance or socioeconomic status.
Participants earn Bronze, Silver, and Gold Certificates and Bronze, Silver, and Gold Medals. Each level involves setting goals in four program areas; Voluntary Public Service, Personal Development, Physical Fitness, and Expedition / Exploration.
Ethan worked hard to achieve his goal of receiving the Congressional Award before his 24th birthday. Councilman DuWayne Gregory was his mentor and guided him through the steps of the requirements. Ethan spent much of his time volunteering at the Gerald Ryan Outreach Center in Wyandanch, and Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip.
“I have known Ethan since my time at the Suffolk County Legislature,” said Councilman Gregory. “It has been my honor to work with him and watch him grow into an outstanding member of our community. I’m so glad we were to celebrate his 24th birthday by welcoming him to Town Hall and recognizing this major accomplishment,” he added.
