To mark the twelfth anniversary of the September 11th, 2001 attacks, the Town of Babylon and the Town of Babylon Fire Chiefs Association hosted a remembrance ceremony at the Town’s 9/11 Memorial, located in between Cedar and Overlook beaches on Ocean Parkway. At the ceremony, a list of the names of those from the area who died that day was read. Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer delivered the opening remarks.

“Forty eight Babylon residents lost their lives that fateful day and this community will never forget them,” said Supervisor Schaffer. “We lean on each other, we pray for the victim’s families, and we give thanks for the heroes of that day, as well as the heroes that still protect us, from our local firehouse to our armed forces abroad. As remember 9/11, we stand united as a community, and as a country, stronger and more resilient than ever.”

Several local fire departments were in attendance for the memorial, as well as local officials including Councilman Tom Donnelly, who served as a decorated member of the New York City Fire Department for over 20 years and was part of the recovery effort following the events of 9/11.
