On Monday, October 2, 2023, The Town celebrated the life of 7-year-old Dominik Gonzalez by ceremoniously renaming the playground at North Lindenhurst's Zahn’s Park in memory of him. Dominik, the son of Vicky's Casa del Sabor owners, Erik Gonzales and Vicky Ramos, passed away in October 2021 after a brave and hard-fought battle with childhood cancer.
A staple in North Lindenhurst, Vicky’s Casa del Sabor has been a popular and beloved takeout spot since 2011. The restaurant was closed for several years while the family focused on Dominik’s health. They surprised the community by quietly re-opening back in May of this year and have been bustling with orders ever since.
Erik and Vicky and their sons Lukas and Kaysen were joined by Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez, Legislator Jason Richberg, faculty and staff from William Rall Elementary School, a fire engine from the North Lindenhurst Fire Department, and many community members as the sign was unveiled on a gorgeous October afternoon.
In 7 short years, Dominik made a huge impact on our community and it is fitting that now his memory will live on here as the playground that he used to ride his bike to will carry his name.
