North Babylon Street Ceremoniously Renamed for Donato A. DeFilippis

WHEREAS, born on January 27, 1926, Donato A. Defilippis to Guiseppe and Marta DeFilippis; and

WHEREAS, after graduating from high school, Donato enlisted in the United States Navy; and

WHEREAS; Donato was one of 3,000 U.S. Navy soldiers on board the USS Missouri to witness the official end of WWII; and

WHEREAS, upon his return, Donato married Teresa. Together they had two daughters, Diane and JoAnn and twin boys, Joseph and James; and

WHEREAS, In 1969, Donato and Teresa wanted his children to see trees and have a less stressful environment so they moved his family from Flatbush to North Babylon; and

WHEREAS, Donato was honored by News 12 with a segment on him for the 65th anniversary of the Surrender of Japan. Then in 2018, he was honored at Pearl Harbor, HI for the 75th anniversary.

NOW, THEREFORE, be it

RESOLVED, that the Town Board of the Town of Babylon authorizes the ceremonious changing of the name of Lexington Avenue between Belmont Avenue and Laramie Road, N. Babylon, to “Donato A. DeFilippis Memorial Way;” and be it further

RESOLVED, the Town of Babylon Department of Public Works shall install signs above the current street signs stating “Donato A. DeFilippis Memorial Way”
