Town of Babylon Councilwoman Jacqueline Gordon recently joined with Receiver of Taxes Corinne DiSomma and New York State Assemblyman Robert Sweeney to recognize members of the Great Neck Road Elementary School’s S.A.D.D. (Students Against Destructive Decisions) Club and thank them for collecting items to be donated to the Town’s Animal Shelter. Among the items collected were beds, blankets, treats and toys. To show appreciation for the generous effort, Animal Shelter Director Chris Elton stopped by with “Steve,” a puppy who currently resides in the shelter.

The students decided to collect these items as part of Global Youth Service Day, which is a worldwide celebration of community service and civic engagement. As part of Global Youth Service Day, the Town of Babylon’s Beautification Program works with over twenty organizations and thousands of youth volunteers to work on community service projects throughout the Town. Past projects have included helping non-profit organizations through food drives and monetary donations, collecting food for the needy, visiting local senior citizens centers, making holiday baskets for hospitalized children, conducting community clean-up efforts and assisting local veterans groups in need. For more information of the Town of Babylon’s Beautification Program, please call (631) 587-3752 ext. 6012.

The Town of Babylon Animal Shelter is located at 51 Lamar Street in West Babylon and provides pet adoption services to Town residents, while also serving as a home to displaced animals in need. In order to provide the best care for those animals living in the shelter, donations of supplies are always welcome. For information on how to donate supplies, volunteer or adopt, visit their Facebook page or call them at (631) 643-9270.
