Babylon Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer and Councilman Tom Donnelly recently joined with Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez and Councilwoman Jacqueline Gordon to present the Town’s “Wellness Leadership Initiative” at the Town Hall Annex in North Babylon. The event provided the opportunity for community organizations, elected officials and members of law enforcement to connect in one place to discuss what services they can offer each other to address the important issue of substance abuse in our area and better educate the public on these resources.

Councilman Donnelly, who serves as chairman for the Department of Human Services, delivered the introduction to the meeting and was followed by Supervisor Schaffer, who spoke of the need to increase effectiveness of substance abuse prevention and treatment within the Town. Those in attendance also heard from Diane Thiel, President of the West Babylon Board of Education and the West Babylon Main Street Organization; Robin McKinnon, Community Development Specialist from the Prevention Resource Center; and Inspector Gerard Gigante of the Suffolk County Police First Precinct.

The Town of Babylon Division of Drug and Alcohol Services' Beacon Family Wellness Center provides comprehensive, affordable, and accessible chemical dependency treatment services to residents. The center supports residents and their families in their recovery process through information and referral, education, counseling, interaction with other agencies, and a commitment to self-help.
