EarthDay2.gif

This Saturday, May 2nd, over 50 environmental organizations and displays will be at Town Hall in Lindenhurst for our annual Earth Day Celebration from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, where those in attendance will have the opportunity to pick up environmentally friendly giveaways and even earn a chance to win a lawn mower! This year’s celebration is the Town’s biggest ever with numerous new groups, organizations, local businesses and schools joining the annual celebration. The Earth Day celebration will also serve to unveil many of the Town’s environmental initiatives, including new Great South Bay kayaking trails and the Town’s anti-litter campaign.

AB Environmental, who will be hosting a booth at the event, will be sponsoring a raffle for a Kobalt cordless push lawn mower with mulching capability, valued at $499. Guests are also invited to take advantage of the numerous giveaways available (the most the Town has ever done!), which include 15 rain barrels, water bottles, lanyards, tote bags made out of recycled soda bottles and more! There will also be a bouncy castle on site for our younger residents.

The Town will also be recognizing outstanding students in our area as Supervisor Rich Schaffer and the Town Board joins with Covanta Energy for the presentation of checks for the winners of the 2015 Babylon Covantage EcoTech scholarship contest, which is aimed at rewarding students who complete outstanding environmental science projects. Winners will receive scholarships up to $1,000.

Town Hall is located at 200 East Sunrise in Lindenhurst. For more information, please contact the Department of Environmental Control at (631) 422-7640.
