[ARCHIVED] Babylon Officials Join Senator Schumer to Secure Funds for New Wyandanch Train Station

Senator Charles Schumer recently joined with County Executive Steve Bellone, Babylon Town Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez, and Legislator DuWayne Gregory to urge federal officials to allow $2 million in funding to be used on the design and construction of a new train station as part of the “Wyandanch Rising” project.

The Town of Babylon is asking that the $2 million, which was previously allocated for a different project no longer in need of resources, be used for the construction of a new Wyandanch train station. Federal red-tape could prevent the funds from being used for the project. If the funds are not used by the Town of Babylon, the funds would go back to the federal government who may then reallocate them to another state.

The new Wyandanch train station will replace the current one, and feature a pedestrian overpass and extensive site improvements. The new station will serve as a centerpiece of the “Wyandanch Rising” initiative and attract private investment and economic growth to the area.
