[ARCHIVED] Town Honors Local Residents with Heroism Award

Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer recently joined with Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez, Councilman Tom Donnelly, and Receiver of Taxes Corinne DiSomma to honor two local residents for their acts that helped save a 12-year-old boy who fell into an icy Babylon canal. Bridget Giess—a friend of the boy—was walking along the canal with him when he fell in. She immediately called her mother as well as 911. Bridget held her friend’s hand until her mother arrived, all while staying calm on the phone with the 911 operator. Once the Suffolk County Police arrived on the scene, the boy was able to be pulled out of the water to safety.

Christine and Bridget Giess were each presented with the Town of Babylon Heroism Award, the highest honor bestowed to residents by the Town. Supervisor Schaffer commended Christine and Bridget and thanked them for their service to the community.
