[ARCHIVED] Lindenhurst Varsity Lacrosse Holds Pre-Game Ceremony for Local Veteran, Alumnus

Town of Babylon Councilwoman Jackie Gordon recently attended a lacrosse game between Babylon Jr.-Sr. High School and Lindenhurst High School, where local veteran Michael “Mikey” Piro was honored for his years of military service. Piro, who graduated from Lindenhurst High School in 1997, served in the US Army from 2001 to 2006 as an Infantry and Cavalry officer, where he achieved the rank of captain. In his five years of active duty, he served one year in the Republic of Korea and was deployed twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, spending a total of 23 months in Iraq.

During the time of his service, Piro earned two Bronze Stars, the Army Commendation Medal with Valor device, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Expert Infantryman’s Badge, the Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, Parachutist Airborne Wings, Air Assault Wings, and the Ranger Tab. Piro is a 2001 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree and was a three year Varsity Lacrosse athlete.

Councilwoman Gordon presented Mikey with an official Town of Babylon proclamation and thanked him for his dedicated service to our country.
