[ARCHIVED] Councilman Donnelly Hosts Members of Ecuador’s Quito Fire Department

Quito Newsflash.jpg

Town of Babylon Councilman Tom Donnelly—who organized a collection of 20 boxes of emergency supplies for Ecuador’s earthquake relief effort—recently hosted members of the Quito Fire Department at Town Hall. The Quito Fire Department is one of the organizations leading the recovery in Ecuador. Last month, the Town of Babylon Department of Public Works transported the supplies to the Ecuador Consulate, where they were then shipped to the Quito Fire Department.

As a thank you for the Town’s help, Coronel Eber Arroyo—Commander of the Quito Fire Department—presented Councilman Donnelly with three statues of the Virgen de Quito. According to Arroyo, the statue represents Ecuador’s own “Statue of Liberty.” Councilman Donnelly gratefully accepted the gift on behalf of the Town, and noted that it was an honor to help out a fellow community in need.
