On Thursday, April 25th, Babylon Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer and Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez were in attendance for the reopening of Ocean Parkway, which was badly damaged by Superstorm Sandy last fall. At the ceremony, Supervisor Schaffer and Deputy Supervisor Martinez joined Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, Assemblyman Joe Saladino, and State Senator Charles Fuschillo in a ribbon cutting to signify the reopening of the parkway.
Ocean Parkway provides access for Town of Babylon residents to many south shore locations, including Cedar Beach, Gilgo Beach, and Overlook Beach. The restoration work for the parkway began in December and has consisted of road repairs, dune reconstruction, and the replanting of vegetation. The majority of this project was funded by the Federal Highway Administration’s Emergency Relief Program.
