[ARCHIVED] Local Veterans Honored as “Hometown Heroes”
Last month, two local veterans were honored by the Town of Babylon Teamsters City Employees Union Local 237 as “Hometown Heroes” for their accomplishments and service both here and abroad. Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez, Councilwoman Jackie Gordon, and Councilman Tom Donnelly attended a ceremony held at VFW Post 2912 in Wyandanch for Town of Babylon residents William Hart and Michael Oakley. Hart served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War. Oakley served in Vietnam as a United States Army Paratrooper and received the Purple Heart for combat wounds he suffered on the battlefield.
Supervisor Schaffer commended William and Michael for their service to our nation, and both men were honored with Certificates of Special Recognition.
