Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer recently joined Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez and Councilman Tom Donnelly in congratulating Victoria Bonavita, of North Babylon, on being named one of the top two youth volunteers for 2017 in New York State by the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, a nationwide program honoring young people for outstanding acts of volunteerism. Over 31,000 young people from across the country participated in this year’s program.

Victoria was recognized for sharing her love of animals with hundreds of thousands of people through oral presentations, homemade videos, and articles in online publications. To date, Victoria has created 22 educational videos for her own YouTube channel, “Victoria’s Amazing World,” many of which feature interviews with celebrities. Victoria cites an early childhood experience, when her grandfather introduced her to pigeons and chickens, as providing the inspiration for her work

“Since then, I’ve always been interested in animals and in helping to teach others about them,” said Victoria.

As a State Honoree, Victoria will receive $1,000, an engraved silver medallion and an all-expense-paid trip in early May to Washington, D.C., where she will join the honorees from each of the other states for four days of national recognition events.

Supervisor Schaffer presented Victoria with an official Town of Babylon Certificate of Special Recognition and commended her on this extraordinary accomplishment, noting it as a testament to her hard work and dedication to the community.
