For a Global Youth Service Project, the Community Service Club students at West Babylon Junior High School created colorful pins, bracelets, key chains and school spirit items that were sold during school lunch hours. All proceeds from the sales were donated to Autism Speaks, a nonprofit advocacy organization that sponsors autism research and awareness throughout the United States.

Since 2011, the Community Service Club, under the direction of Guidance Counselor and Club Advisor Lorraine Zemba, has made a difference in our community by participating in the annual Global Youth Service Day event. In addition, the club has been a steward for our environment through its “adoption” of Venetian Shores Park each spring.

Representing Assemblywoman Kimberly Jean-Pierre, Lasheca Lewis thanked the students for their dedicated efforts and spoke to them about the importance of working together for the betterment of the community and its residents. Assistant Principal Jessica Yawney-Kohler joined Lorraine Zemba, Lasheca Lewis and Florence Findley from the Town of Babylon’s Beautification Program in commending the students for their admirable service.
