Recently Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer joined with other Town Officials, family members and the residents of Mount Avenue in Wyandanch to honor Mrs. Jenkins by renaming a portion of Mount Avenue between Parkway Boulevard and Straight Path to Dolores E. Jenkins Avenue.
Mrs. Dolores Maxwell-Jenkins has been an icon in the Wyandanch School District for over forty four years and has been a pillar of the community. To validate her devotion and love for the children of Wyandanch, the street in front of Martin Luther King Jr. and LaFrancis Hardiman Elementary School had been renamed in her honor. Mrs. Jenkins has since retired from the Wyandanch Union Free School District after a successful and personally fulfilling career serving the community as a Teacher, Director of Instruction, Assistant Principal, Principal, and Administrator. In addition to her being a lifelong resident, Mrs. Jenkins has lived in Wyandanch, Town of Babylon since her parents moved here in 1956.
Pictured with friends and family of Mrs. Jenkins are New York State Assemblywoman Kimberly Jean-Pierre, Suffolk County Presiding Officer DuWayne Gregory, Mrs. Jenkins, Supervisor Schaffer, and Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez.
