Please see the message below from the MTA regarding a temporary freight train service change on the Long Island Railroad (LIRR). Residents along this freight line should expect additional noise due to the change.
"As a result of necessary LIRR track-work along the Babylon Branch, the RS-40 freight train that normally operates mid-days will be operating temporarily during overnight hours through August 20th beginning this evening (August 1st). This train services freight customers along our Central Branch, but is required to enter the Babylon Branch to reverse direction at Babylon Interlocking. LIRR track-work is limiting mid-day capacity of Babylon Interlocking, thus requiring the move to overnights.
We apologize for this temporary inconvenience. The RS-40 will resume mid-day operations on August 21.
For questions or concerns about Long Island Railroad service, call 718-217-5477 Monday-Friday."
