Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer (right) and Councilwoman Jackie Gordon (left) recently presented Vinnelle Grant (center) with a Certificate of Achievement before a Town Board meeting. Grant won a gold medal in the 17-18 year-old women’s 800-meter race at the Amateur Athletic Union Junior Olympic Games in Detroit, Michigan earlier this month. Supervisor Schaffer and Councilwoman Gordon congratulated Grant for her outstanding athletic performance and wished her luck in all of her future endeavors.
In addition to her first-place finish, Grant also placed fourth in the 400-meter competition for the same age bracket. Her achievements come only weeks after she graduated from Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School in June.
