[ARCHIVED] Town of Babylon to Host Gang Prevention Panel

Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer and Councilman Tom Donnelly are hosting a panel on October 11 titled “Gang Prevention and Interventions for Our Youth.” The panel, in conjunction with the Town of Babylon Beacon Family Wellness Center, will take place at Lindenhurst High School from 7-9 PM. Sergio Argueta, Chairperson and Founder of Struggles to Reunite Our New Generation (S.T.R.O.N.G.) Youth Inc., will host the event. Suffolk County Police Commissioner Tim Sini, Hon. Fernando Camacho, Acting Justice of the Suffolk County Supreme Court and a representative from the Suffolk County Probation Gang Unit will also be panel members.

The event will inform parents about gangs on Long Island and the ways to prevent their children from joining them. Topics discussed will include the dangers of gang-affiliation and warning signs parents can identify in their children’s behavior. The speakers will also discuss the opioid crisis plaguing Long Island communities, and how it is related to local gangs.
