The Long Island Railroad has asked to share the following information:
Starting on the weekend of September 30- October 1, 2017, the LIRR will be replacing wood ties with concrete ties on the Babylon Branch between Freeport and Merrick. We will also be working on the weekends of October 7-8, October 14-15, November 4-5 and November 11-12. Work will begin at midnight on Saturday and will continue through 2:30 AM on Monday morning each weekend. This concrete tie replacement work is being performed as part of the LIRR’s 2017 Annual Track Program, an ongoing initiative to renew track infrastructure assets and improve safety and on-time performance.
During these weekends, one of the two main tracks will be out of service between Rockville Centre and Wantagh. Babylon Branch service will be reduced to hourly from half-hourly, with stopping patterns revised on remaining trains. As a result, Montauk and Huntington Branch trains will also be adjusted. Please plan ahead and pick up special Branch timetables or visit www.mta.info/lirr.
We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we work to complete this much-needed project in the shortest time-frame possible.
