Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez, Councilmembers Jackie Gordon and Terence McSweeney and Town Clerk Geraldine Compitello recently recognized local football player Ernesto Mitchell of Wheatley Heights. Mitchell, 16, earned the Bob Collotta Award for being the top linebacker in Suffolk County last season. Mitchell’s stifling defensive prowess helped his Half Hollow Hills East Thunderbirds make their deepest playoff run in recent history.
Mitchell, joined by his mother and father (Tonya and Roselio) received a Certificate of Special Recognition from the Town Board members. Supervisor Schaffer congratulated Mitchell and encouraged him to stay dedicated not only on the field, but also in the classroom.
