Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez, Councilpersons Jackie Gordon and Anthony Manetta and Suffolk County Legislature Presiding Officer DuWayne Gregory recently attended the dedication of Wyandanch Plaza to honor Delano Stewart, a longtime activist in the community who died in 2017. Stewart’s wife, Ann, two daughters, Dara and Nikki and Wayne Horsley, former Presiding Officer of the Suffolk County Legislature, were also in attendance.
Wyandanch Plaza, located on Station Drive, was dedicated to Stewart with a new plaque that features an image of him and a short biography about his life and service to the community. Stewart emphasized the importance of voting in the hamlet and was a driving force behind the vision to revitalize the area where the plaza is located.
The officials in attendance and other community leaders took turns highlighting the work that Stewart did for Wyandanch and emphasized the importance of following his example. The dedication was followed by a reception for those who attended.
