On Sunday, April 8th, Town Clerk Gerry Compitello attended the kick-off ceremony celebrating the first-annual Autism Awareness Walk & Bowl-A-Thon hosted by Realty Direct in Deer Park. Volunteers braved the chilly weather to help bring awareness about Autism by walking from the Realty Direct parking lot on Deer Park Avenue to Strike 10 Bowling Alley located on Long Island Avenue.
Town Clerk Compitello thanked all the volunteers, including the Deer Park Fire Department and the Suffolk County Police Department, for their assistance and continued support for Autism awareness by participating in the fun-filled event that raised over $4,000.00. Compitello also commended Amy Lent, president of the Realty Direct NY Autism Foundation, Inc., for her many years of service to bring awareness and raise much-need funds for the cause, some of which are donated to special needs teachers in the Deer Park and Commack School Districts for their wish list items and scholarships for their students.
