From the Town of Babylon Beautification Program: On Friday, April 20, Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer and New York State Senator Phil Boyle thanked Suffolk County Undersheriff Sheriff Steven Kuehhas and his department’s Vocational Training Program clients for a job well done cleaning up the litter and debris that accumulated in the preserved New York State Parks Department area located between Hilltop Avenue and Lakeway Avenue in North Babylon.

The Sheriff Vocational Training Program was developed in 2012 and provides communities with labor through trained, pre-screened, low security inmates. The program has assisted the Town of Babylon in keeping neighborhoods clean multiple times, while serving as a tool for improving post-release employability and an opportunity for the inmates to give back to the community.

"I am pleased to partner with the Town of Babylon on this beautification initiative," said Suffolk County Sheriff Errol Toulon. "This is a win-win for town residents and the inmates assigned to these special work crews. It gives our inmates the opportunity to give back, and our taxpayers receive a valuable service."

The Town of Babylon provided dumpsters, port-o-potties and picnic tables as well as a Department of Public Works bobcat operator.  Members of the Belmont Lake Civic Association were on hand to thank the inmates during the 4 day project and provided coffee and donuts in appreciation of their service.
