From the Town of Babylon Beautification Program: Every Day is Earth Day! More than 100 volunteers participated in the 13th annual “Earth Day at Edgewood Preserve” event in Deer Park. In honor of Earth Day, volunteers spruced up hiking trails by picking up litter and debris along trails, fields and parking lots. The environmental stewards included members from the Deer Park Fire Department, Long Island Greenways and Healthy Trails (L.I.G.H.T.), Concerned Long Island Mountain Bikers (C.L.I.M.B), Edgewood Flyers, Deer Park Stop-N-Shop, Charles Chai Martial Arts Center, Robert Moses Middle School Environmental & Recycling Club, Lindenhurst High School Robotics Club, and Roberts Lumber in Deer Park.
Edgewood Preserve, which is part of the New York State Nature and Historic Preserve, is comprised of 843 acres of wildlife situated within the Town of Babylon, Islip and Huntington. It was created by legislation introduced by Senator Owen Johnson in 1987 and signed by Governor Mario Cuomo.
