[ARCHIVED] Top NCAA athlete honored at Babylon Town Hall

Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez and other members of the Town Board recognized West Babylon native Sam Apuzzo for winning the 2018 Tewaaraton Award for being the top Division-I women’s lacrosse player in the country. Councilpersons Jackie Gordon, Anthony Manetta and Terry McSweeney, Receiver of Taxes Corinne DiSomma, Town Clerk Gerry Compitello and New York State Senator Phil Boyle were also in attendance.

Apuzzo, a junior at Boston College, set program records by tallying 88 goals, 129 points and 163 draw controls while leading the Eagles to the NCAA championship game. She was also named the ACC Attacker of the Year for her remarkable campaign.

Supervisor Schaffer, Senator Boyle and the rest of the Babylon Town Board congratulated Apuzzo for her amazing season and wished her luck for her senior year both on the field and in the classroom. She was presented with an official Town of Babylon Certificate of Appreciation for her commitment to her athletics.
