From the Town of Babylon Beautification Program: To the excitement and delight of over 150 admiring fans, actor Daryl “Chill” Mitchell visited the Wyandanch community on Saturday, November 3rd for a very special Ribbon Cutting and Sign Dedication in his honor. Daryl grew up in Wyandanch and started his career in Hip Hop as part of the duo “Groove B. Chill”.  He then began acting and is known for roles in movies such as House Party and Sgt. Bilko.  He appeared in television sitcoms such as The John Larroquette Show and Veronica’s Closet as well as others. Currently, Daryl plays the role of Patton Plame on the television show NCIS: New Orleans. He started the Daryl Mitchell Foundation to raise awareness of spinal cord injuries after a motorcycle accident in 2001. Daryl also serves as the Minority Outreach spokesman for the Christopher Reeves Foundation and is also a strong advocate for employing actors with disabilities.

Town of Babylon Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez congratulated Daryl on his longstanding successful career and presented him with a proclamation for his outstanding achievements. Suffolk County Presiding Officer DuWayne Gregory and Assemblywoman Kimberly Jean-Pierre joined in on the most deserving accolades for Daryl, who was surrounded by his family and friends. Charles Jackson and Kevin Spann of the Wyandanch Day Committee and coordinators of the event joined the elected officials in honoring Chill for not only his success but for supporting and working with children with disabilities. Daryl graciously thanked everyone including Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer, for visiting him on one of his sets. He encouraged the numerous children present to do well in school, believe in themselves and to never give up on their dreams. The “Wyandanch Welcomes You, Home of Actor Daryl “Chill” Mitchell” sign adorns the southwest corner at Straight Path and Mount Avenue.
