Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez and Councilman Terence McSweeney recently attended the renaming of Manhattan Avenue in West Babylon for US Army PFC Salvatore Joseph Armato between Little East Neck Road and Hampton Road. Armato was killed during a battle in Quand Ngal Province in Vietnam in 1970 at only 20 years old.
Armato’s siblings, extended family members and friends were also on-hand at the ceremony, which was held less than 50 yards from the home where he grew up and lived until he sacrificed his life. New York State Assemblyman Mike LiPetri, Suffolk County Legislator Kevin McCaffrey, members of the West Babylon VFW and Lions Club and event organizer Thomas Lano were also in attendance.
