[ARCHIVED] Supervisor Schaffer Joins County Executive Bellone to Honor Longtime Town Employee

On Friday, May 10, 2013, Babylon Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer joined with Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, as well as many local officials, to dedicate a portion of roadway in Tanner Park to remember Pat Kaphan, a longtime Town of Babylon employee who passed away last year. Several of Kaphan’s family members were in attendance for the ceremony, including her daughter Kelly Berdolt and son Robert Barnes, who unveiled the sign marking the renamed road. County Executive Bellone would later join the family members to help unveil a commemorative plaque honoring Kaphan in the senior center.

Pat Kaphan worked for the Town of Babylon for over twenty years in numerous roles. In 1989, she began working for the Town as a member of the Industrial Development Agency. Three years later, she would join the Department of Planning and Development, a department which she would become Deputy Commissioner of in 1998. In 2004, Kaphan became the Town’s Commissioner of General Services. Following her retirement in 2011, Pat Kaphan took on a central role as a part-time worker at the Tanner Park Senior Center, where she was beloved by the seniors she worked closely with every day.

Also in attendance were Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez, Councilman Tom Donnelly, Town Clerk Carol Quirk, Receiver of Taxes Corinne DiSomma, State Assemblyman Robert Sweeney, Deputy Presiding Officer of the Suffolk County Legislature Wayne Horsley, and County Legislator DuWayne Gregory.
