[ARCHIVED] Town of Babylon Hosts Housing Lottery for New Senior Development in Deer Park

Sutton Landing Housing Lottery

Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez, Councilmen Terry McSweeney and DuWayne Gregory and Town Clerk Gerry Compitello recently welcomed the Long Island Housing Partnership (LIHP) and developer Engel Burman to Town Hall to host the housing lottery for a new senior rental complex on Sutton Court in Deer Park. The elected officials, joined by a representative from New York State Assemblywoman Kimberly Jean-Pierre’s office, pulled 134 applicant names to be considered for the 40 affordable units in the development.

Supervisor Schaffer, who joined virtually, and Deputy Supervisor Martinez stated that they are excited to welcome the development to Deer Park, as it will provide much-needed housing in the area.

Peter J. Elkowitz, President and CEO of the Long Island Housing Partnership said “Sutton Landing at Deer Park represents smart redevelopment of an underutilized site providing much needed affordable housing for our growing senior population within a beautiful mixed income community. LIHP is very happy to work with the Town of Babylon and the developer, Engel Burman, to connect seniors in need with these safe, well designed and affordable units.”

The development is 200 units in total, 40 of which are affordable pursuant to Town of Babylon code. Each unit has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The property was previously home to the closed George Washington School.
