[ARCHIVED] Supervisor Schaffer Attends Ribbon Cutting for Environmentally Friendly Asphalt Plant

On Wednesday, June 19, 2013, Babylon Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer and Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez joined County Executive Steve Bellone for the unveiling of Posillico Materials’ newly upgraded facility in Farmingdale, which features a new railroad spur and material transfer depot. These upgrades are aimed at modernizing the facility, which was first opened in 1971.

The improvements to the plant allows for Posillico to transfer materials by train rather than truck, which will reduce traffic on local roads and decrease carbon emissions. The plant has also been converted from being powered by diesel to now a grid power supply, which reduces fuel consumption, carbon emissions, and noise for surrounding areas. The upgraded plant will create 8 new jobs while retaining 75.

Pictured cutting the ribbon are Deputy Supervisor Martinez (left), Babylon Industrial Development Agency CEO Robert Stricoff (third from left), County Executive Bellone (fourth from right), Michael Posillico of Posillico Inc. (third from right), and Supervisor Schaffer (second from right).
