Just before the holidays, the beautification of the “Chamber Corner” in downtown Copiague was completed and celebrated by the Chamber of Commerce led by President Melissa Firmes, Boy Scout Troop 2000 of Copiague and the Town of Babylon with a ribbon cutting for its new flagpole, chamber announcement sign and a beautiful four dial decorative street clock.
Beautification Ambassador and Chamber President Emeritus Sharon Fattoruso worked diligently with the Town of Babylon, Suffolk County Downtown Revitalization and Babylon IDA to bring the corner back to life. The corner had been barren for some years as it underwent construction to improve safety which included a turning lane.
Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez, Councilman DuWayne Gregory, Babylon IDA CEO Tom Dolan, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, Suffolk County Legislator Jason Richberg and Beautification Director Viscel Moore were there to celebrate with the chamber. Deputy Supervisor Martinez remarked that this was the bow on Sharon’s legacy as Chamber President and Supervisor Schaffer presented her with flowers on behalf of the Town Board. Both said they were excited to continue to work with the chamber to make Copiague a vibrant community.
