1. What is a Marriage License?

A marriage license issued from this office is a license which allows you to get married in the State of New York only. For more information on marriage licenses, please contact the Town Clerk’s Office at (631) 957-4294.

2. How do I obtain a Marriage License?

In order to obtain a marriage license, please email marriageinfo@townofbabylon.com with your request to get a Marriage License. We will respond to your request within a 24 hour period.

Note: Both the bride and groom must be present to obtain a Marriage License. The fee is $40 in cash or money order made out to the Town of Babylon. We do not accept debit or credit cards. We only accept original or certified copies of the required documents. We do not accept photo copies or emailed copies of required documents. We cannot issue a marriage license without the proper required documents. Documents that have been ripped, taped or altered in anyway will not be accepted. No appointment is needed at this time. Our hours of operation to obtain a Marriage License are Monday through Friday from 9AM to 3:30PM and we are open every Tuesday from 9AM to 5:30PM.

4. How much does a Marriage License cost?

Marriage licenses cost $40 (money order made out to Town of Babylon) per license. Certified copies of a marriage certificate are $10 each (Money order made out to Town of Babylon).

5. What is a Marriage Certificate?

A marriage certificate certifies that a couple has been married. A copy of the certificate is not available to the general public and is only available to the spouses(s) on record.

6. How do I get a copy of a Marriage Certificate?

Note: The Town of Babylon Clerk’s Office will only have a copy of your Marriage Certificate if you obtained your Marriage License in the Town of Babylon. See list of Towns and Villages. Only the bride or groom are eligible to get a copy of their Marriage Certificate.

In order to obtain a certified copy of your Marriage Certificate by mail, you will need to mail in:

1. Fill out the attached form: (Marriage Certificate request application)
2. A letter requesting a certified copy of your marriage certificate which must include both person’s names (including birth name), date of ceremony and phone number.
3. Copy of valid driver’s license (just the person who is requesting fine)
4. Money order made out to the Town of Babylon in the amount of $10.00
5. Mail your request to:

7. What is the process to obtain a Marriage License if previously married?

If an applicant was previously married and divorced, the certified judgement of divorce must be presented along with all other required documents. If an applicant is widowed, a copy of their previous spouse’s death certificate must be presented along with all other required documentation.

8. How do I apply for a second marriage ceremony license?
